FUEL PRICE HIKE: HOW GAS SHORTAGE IS AFFECTING ELECTRICITY SUPPLY TO STUDENTS IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES

The recent fuel price hike has had a devastating impact on Nigerian University Students, as it is affecting not only their transportation costs but also straining on their access to electricity. The shortage of gas, a key fuel source for power generation, has led to frequent _epileptic_ power outages and reduced electricity supply on campuses.

Students, who temporarily resulted into the use of improvised means are struggling to adequately study, barely engage in research works, and sometime find it difficult to complete assignments due to the lack of reliably steady supply of electricity. The situation is particularly dire in many universities with limited backup power systems, leaving students without access to basic necessities like light in the lecture halls, no water to wash or exercise laboratory practicals, and rationed internet access time, etcetera, to mention few.
Without doubts, the gas shortage has also affected the overall academic experience, with students facing numerous issues like; disrupted lectures and schedules, inability to access online, resource failure, reduced productivity, and summary increase in stress levels

Though, university authorities as witnessed are working to find alternative solutions, but the situation still remains challenging. Students therefore in their humble plea, are calling on government and concerned authorities for urgent action to address the gas shortage and ensure a stable electricity supply is restored in due time to creating enabling environment for easy study and learning.
